Three strong riders, two high-end performance Bianchi mountain bikes and a challenging race calendar to be faced with renewed ambitions by Nadir Colledani, Stephane Tempier and Chiara Teocchi: Team Bianchi Countervail toasted to a new season with a meet&greet held at Bianchi Cafè & Cycles Milano on Friday, February 15th. Besides Bianchi, Materials Sciences Cooperation (MSC) will support the Bianchi MTB team for the fourth straight season as second naming sponsor, with the Countervail® brand: the innovative and patented carbon material with special fiber architecture and viscoelastic resin that eliminates vibrations, integrated in all Bianchi CV models.
Team Bianchi Countervail will count on three confirmed riders: Stephane Tempier, winner of the 2018 Roc d'Azur and runner-up in international events such as Albstadt's World Cup round; Nadir Colledani, in line for his second year in the Elite series and coming off 4 CX wins in Italy and Slovenia over the Winter; Chiara Teocchi, Team Relay European champion in 2018 and bronze medallist in her first Elite Italian championships, both in XCO (2018) and Cyclo-cross (2019).
"We managed to confirm three high-profile riders, three leaders. Tempier proved in Albstadt's World Cup round he can aim for any kind of result. A smart and committed guy, Colledani is a rider on the rise. We'll also count on Teocchi, a byword for prestigious displays both in XCO and CX. The whole team's structure has been confirmed on excellent levels" Team Bianchi Countervail's President Felice Gimondi explained.
After the debut at 4 Stage MTB Race di Lanzarote with a stage-win and two runner-up spots (GC included) for Nadir Colledani and a podium display for Chiara Teocchi, Team Bianchi Countervail's adventure will continue at the Copa Catalana Intenacional 2019 on February 23rd/24th, before the Italian premiere in Internazionali d'Italia's stage 1 in Andora on March 2nd. XCO World Cup rounds in Albstadt, Nove Mesto na Morave, Vallnord, Les Gets, Val di Sole, Lenzerheide and Snowshoe stand out in the race calendar, as well as the European Championships in Brno in late July (right after the French and Italian National championships) and the Worlds in early September.
"We aim for big results at the National championships, but also at the European and World Championships, and in the World Cup. If I had to choose, as a former stage-rider I have always had a special sake for the World Cup, even though the World Championships mean the opportunity to wear a special jersey for a whole year,” Gimondi said. .
Besides Bianchi and MSC (with Countervail® brand), the MTB team is sponsored by Kenda, Full Speed Ahead, Kask (also with KOO sunglasses), Elite (also with Ozone products), Gaerne, Crankbrothers, Santini, Fizik, Bonometti Centrocaravan, Garmin, EthicSport, Effetto Mariposa and Walbike.
Bianchi supplies the team with two high-end carbon models with racing geometry: the revolutionary Methanol CV RS and Methanol 29 Full Suspension.
Countervail®’s unique carbon fiber architecture and its properties deliver total “After-Shock Control” by eliminating vibrations that pass through the suspension after impact and from trail buzz, delivering a new level of ride quality, with increased accuracy and reduced muscular fatigue. Engineered to be the best XCO and XCM racing machine, without compromises, with a new 940gr frame, Methanol CV RS features an optimized geometry to respond to the new faster, rougher race tracks by adding a longer reach and a slacker head tube angle. Improved clearance in the chain-stays allows to accomodate larger tyres up to 58mm width in wet, muddy conditions.
Methanol 29 FS is the bike of team Bianchi MTB since several season acting like an essential support in many victories all over the world. Everything in it is oriented to maximize the Racing performance and his heart, the frame, is made in carbon monocoque and relies on a 4-Bar suspension system with Horst link.
Team Bianchi Countervail also rides Zolder Pro disc, developed to obtain the best performance in specific cyclo-cross conditions, combining lightweight and resistance
STEPHANE TEMPIER: This team has characterized my career, and I am proud of this close relationship with the Bianchi MTB Team, and the confidence they showed me over the years. This winter I have been focused on training a lot, in the build up for an important season for me. In this season, the World Cup will hold a stage in Les Gets, very close to my house, where I won the World silver medal as a Junior in 2004 - and the race will be on July 14th, France’s National Day: I hope to perform big on that day, but generally my wish is to finally conquer a World Cup stage. And, possibly, make a special dedication, as I will become a father in July.
CHIARA TEOCCHI: 2019 marks my first experience in the Elite category: an important challenge, even more so on the eve of the Olympic season. I will need to make experience and grow, competing against the strongest girls in the World. I hope to collect some good results in the World Cup, maybe in the short races that are well suited to my skills, but without too much pressure as I know it’s going to be my first shot in the category. In Italy, my goal is to bring back the Tricolore jersey, and be competitive in the International races.
NADIR COLLEDANI: Joining Bianchi, I didn’t only change team, but entered an all-new dimension. It took a while to get used to it, but now I feel I have grown up, and found more confidence. I have had a good Winter, between training and Cyclocross, and I am ready to tackle the new season with increased serenity. My goal is to improve my World Cup results, particularly on the courses that are more suited to me, and improve my consistency. In addition, the Italian National Championship in Chies d’Alpago will be contested on a course I love, and I will try to seize the opportunity.
MASSIMO GHIROTTO: In a long story full of important days and successes, there’s something that never changed here: the importance of attitude, and the willingness to live and behave as a professional. Believe in your skills, work hard, and good things will happen. The three athletes we count on this season do have significant possibilities, and I hope they will find on the racing field all the satisfaction they deserve. From the goals’ side, I have always has a passion for National Champions’ jerseys and I am confident all of our three riders will be able to compete for their respective ones.
